Athletics

The Birmingham Education Foundation believes that participation in physical fitness activities and athletic teams fosters positive attitudes, team skills, and cooperation. The BEF supports programming in BPS schools that promote physical fitness and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Commemorative Brick Program

In 2000, the BEF and the district created a partnership to support the construction of new turf fields at both high schools. These new generation artificial turf fields provide a safe place for school and community sports teams to play.

	Today, the BEF continues to promote the Commemorative Brick Program as an outgrowth of the turf field partnership. Members of the community are invited to purchase a brick commemorating a special event or individual for installation at either high school. In addition, 20 percent of the brick’s purchase price is then sent to the high school booster club of choice.
